Wes Ernest

Wes ErnestWes Ernest is originally from Seymour, Indiana. He has been teaching guitar for nearly three decades. Drawing on his years of experience, and from study in guitar performance at Ball State University, Wes has developed his own unique method of instruction. He sees his role as not only that of a teacher, but also of a mentor. Wes welcomes students of all levels and excels at group instruction. He understands that people learn in different ways and is adept at catering to each student's individual needs and learning style.

If you have the desire to learn to play guitar for the first time, or wish to improve on your guitar playing skills, come to Virginia's Music Center and let Wes take you as far as you want to go. He has become a mentor, and a little bit of a legend, to legions of former students!


Missy MacQuarrie

Missy Johnson / Missy MacQuarrieMissy MacQuarrie is a charming belle with a rock n' roll soul. Beatiful piano and vocals or a dose of serious Led Zepplin naturally come from within her. A career vocal instructor and life long performer, Missy teaches voice, guitar, and piano. Young girls flock to Missy and find her an inspiration. She also excels at instructing the big boys who want to sing like they have never sung before!

Since graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2003, Missy has performed with bands at venues ranging from New York's CBGB to the San Diego IndieFest. She has also performed across the country as a solo acoustic artist including appearances at Nashville's own world-renowned BlueBird Cafe. As a professional musician, Missy has worked as a back-up vocalist (Nashville Star/ American Idol Kristin Macnamara, Ashlee Hewitt), an acoustic guitarist, a demo-singer, and a contracted songwriter (Megatraxx, LA).

Missy has a wealth of experience teaching private lessons in voice, piano, and guitar. Missy studied under top-notch vocal coach, Mark Baxter (Aerosmith, Goo Goo Dolls, Journey) and utilizes Baxter's concepts in conjunction with her own to help singers of all levels and styles. Graduating as a Professional Music Major, Missy's expertise also includes the fields of Music Business and Songwriting. She combines these important disciplines with the application of Music Theory and Vocal Technique to ensure her students become well-rounded musicians.


Mesa Schubeck

MesaMesa Schubeck was raised in the beautiful coastal village of Blue Hill, Maine. Traditional music runs strong in her family and from a young age, Mesa was listening to her parents play music in their living room and at contra dances in dancehalls throughout Maine. As a classically trained musician with a degree in Piano Performance from the University of Maine, Mesa is well versed in many styles on piano and vocals. She has been a solo artist and collaborator in Jazz combos, Big Bands and vocal groups.

Upon graduating from UMaine, Mesa joined the piano faculty at the community music school of Bay Chamber Concerts in Rockport, ME. She has also worked as an independent accompanist, performer and private music instructor in Portland, Maine, Santa Fe, NM, and New Haven, CT. Currently, Mesa resides in Nashville, TN where she performs in her own original band, and works as a piano and vocal instructor. She is excited to bring her teaching talents to Virginia's Music Center!


Melissa Taylor

 Melissa Taylor music teacherAfter 15 years developing, promoting and marketing hit songwriters as a songplugger at the industry's top music publishers, Melissa is now a full-time music educator. As part of the Recording Industry faculty at Middle Tennessee State University, Melissa teaches Songwriting Instrumentation-Piano, in addition to teaching privately at Virginia's Music Center.

After graduating with honors from Interlochen Arts Academy, where she was selected for the school's prominent Concert Piano Tour, Melissa earned a Bachelors of Music with honors from The University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. Awarded a Merit Scholarship to attend the University, Melissa's education emphasized piano performance, composition and music business. Melissa teaches students of all ages to play the piano using the Simply Music Method. As a Certified Simply Music Instructor, Melissa offers a breakthrough in music education, instructing students using a "playing based" method where she temporarily delays the reading process, and students are immediately playing great sounding music from their very first lessons. Matt Rhea

Matt Rhea Matt Rhea has always been surrounded by music. His ears and heart were enriched and educated by the cherished musicians in his family, to the city where he grew up, Nashville! His own music endeavors began with piano lessons at the age of 5. When a music teacher at school showed him a saxophone in the 4th grade, Matt knew he had to play it and has never looked back. Adding the flute and clarinet to his woodwind arsenal, Matt received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Belmont University and a Master of Music Degree in Music Performance from the Leeds College of Music in the UK. A lifetime of study, years of teaching, and years of playing in musical theater pit orchestras, jazz, pop, and rock bands have fashioned Matt into a master of the lesson room and stage. Let him guide you on a journey to discover your own special relationship with music.


Josh Coleman

Josh ColemanJosh Coleman is originally from Los Angeles, California. He began playing when he was 12 years old. He spent many years studying with numerous instructors in the LA area. Josh has studied in-depth guitar theory as well as the skills of the guitar masters. He shares his knowledge with excitement while teaching players of all ages and skill levels.

Josh has also been working on guitars for more than a decade. He knows the instrument both as a true payer and as a technical craftsman. Josh is ready to help you master you instrument!


Colin Schiller

Colin SchillerColin Schiller is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, performer and songwriter born in Brooklyn, New York. He's been playing drums for 25 years and teaching for 15. Colin is a musician above everything else and that's what he teaches all his students to be. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, he's enthusiastic about getting you on the right path with the drums. Together, you'll identify your ambitions and goals and work towards achieving them.

Colin emphasizes proper techniques, reading skills, listening exercises, beat compositions, and developing fun relationships to playing the instrument. It's important to Colin that all of his students not only learn the drums, but also how to be a musician. Colin has toured arenas and played for crowds up to 15,000 people, and has also recorded in the most prestigous studios in the world. Take a few lessons from Collin and you will see your dreams of becoming a great drummer start to come into focus!


Matt Owen

New pic coming soon! Matt Owen is a nationally touring innovative electro-tubist from Rockmart, GA and a member of Belligerent Jungle Funk Band "Opposite Box" from Chattanooga, TN and Space-Funk Dance Band "Eclectic Tuba" from Nashville, TN. He is the founder and coordinator for the Electrobrass Conference that is held at The University of Alabama in the summer. This is the first music conference in the world to include brass and electronics.

Matt has shared the stage and collaborated with Maps and Atlases, Junior Marvin (Bob Marley and The Wailers), Roy Agee (Prince), Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), Kliph Scurlock (The Flaming Lips), The Polyphonic Spree, Spaceface, Calliope Musicals, HOTT MT, Patrick Sheridan, Sam Pilafian, and many more! He has served on Amanda Palmer's Musician Panel and performed at SXSW, and performs annually with The Polyphonic Spree for their Holiday Extravaganza.

On top of Matt's pop music role, he also graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia in 2007 and served 8 honorable years in the United States Army as a Bandsman in the 151st and 116th Army Bands. Matt currently tours and teaches the brass lines at Southern Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and Rockmart High School Marching Band.


Anna Marsden

Anna MarsdenAnna Marsden is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Father Ryan High School in 2011 and now attends Louisiana State University, where she studies Communications. She started playing guitar at the age of 8 and began taking lessons from Wes Ernest when she was 10, stopping only when she left Nashville for college. Anna continually returns to work at Virginia's Music Center when she is not at school. She is a marvelous example of how the discipline of studying music builds a well-rounded and focused individual.
